A state in India is a sub-national entity with its own legislative, executive, and judicial powers, operating under the framework of the Indian Constitution. States have authority over education, health, police, agriculture, and local governance. They are governed by elected chief ministers and legislative assemblies, while governors act as ceremonial heads. States vary in language, culture, and economic strengths. There are currently 28 states in India, each contributing uniquely to the nation’s diversity and development.
